Colombian people

Being an entrepreneur in Colombia or anywhere in the world for that matter is definitely not an easy task to do. Some very stressful aspects come into play, things like giving up your everyday job, not really having a steady income, overall uncertainty, choosing and financing the right type of business with the right partners, hiring employees, obtaining and maintaining company reputation, sales projections, competition strategies, as well as legal and taxation issues among many other matters. Since the year 2002, the Chamber of Commerce of Pereira, Risaralda in an effort to promote entrepreneurship and try to change the culture of having a curriculum vitae for one that encourages people to have their own business plan, has been organizing the “Expocamello” event, one of the most important entrepreneurial fairs and business conferences in Colombia.

At the event entrepreneurs from the region have the occasion to gather and showcase their products and services, as well as network with new and experienced business people and potential customers. During the September 2014 event, Colombian Accents had the chance to visit the fair and met many new business ideas and local business initiatives. We met many people during the event, and we interviewed several local entrepreneurs who told us about their business models and the importance of being able to communicate these ideas in English with other business leaders and even potential clients abroad. Johana Rios told us about her enterprise “Saborizate”, an organic beverage company offering different natural flavored drinks such as lemon, orange, and passion fruit, all of them sweetened with “Panela”, an organic and natural brown sugar or unrefined whole cane sweetener. We also sat with Mauricio Aizaga who talks about “Daiech”, a company dedicated to design and develop collaborative software helping improve teamwork processes in any type of business. Ana Maria Perez told us about “Tais Swimwear" a local company that designs and markets women’s swimwear with original and comfortable designs. And we also had the chance to listen to Laura Acosta talking about her company “Kua Drink” which produces and commercializes organic beverages also sweetened with “Panela”. Kua Drink carries exotic flavors like Kahiri, Peppermint, Cinnamon and Cloves, and Ginger. So, as the founder and CEO of the most popular social networks in the world said: “If you just work on stuff that you like and you’re passionate about, you don’t have to have a master plan with how things will play out.” - Mark Zuckerberg.
